Who is Anne Marie, and what does she sell?
Hi Aaron,
Most everyone interested in goth already knows who Anne Marie is, but since you asked;
Coming out of the punk scene, Anne Marie is one of the very best gothic singers and probably the one with the most "scene cred", since she was in the well respected UK bands, Ghost Dance and The Skeletal Family (Anne Marie never "sold out" and turned her back to her audience and core supporters the way that others did).
She has a line of T-shirts available at this featured link.
Ah. So, while Siouxsie listened to her large audience, Anne Marie turned her back on everyone except her first few fans? That must be why I hadn't heard of her… I guess she preferred to stay within a smaller niche.Some of this esoteric history is pretty interesting; you guys are great at digging up stuff that more people might like to know about. It would have been great to read some of that background in the initial post, unless it was only intended for people “already in the know”…
Well, to put it in other words, Anne Marie retained the qualities that made her fans love her.
Siouxsie came out of London (where the bulk of the record exec’s were) and she eventually had better production and a more marketable, gothic look, so it’s no wonder that she became the world’s gothic female icon. I think Anne Marie’s music was more inspired and had better lyrics than Siouxsie’s stuff, however. Anne Marie was also better looking, IMO.
Anyway, Aaron, I am glad you are finding these posts entertaining!
Found your site on yahoo today and really liked it.. I bookmarked it and will be back to check it out some more later.
