Das Noir… A new dark experimental minimal wave project comes to life on the underground scene of Athens, Greece, created by the charismatic Nick Drivas in 2019. An active DJ, writer and with quite a few other bands under his belt on the Hellenic dark/goth/alternative scene Nick finally puts all his energy in his own personal project and delivers two of the finest releases of the cold/minimal wave genre during lockdown days…
Das Noir… Das Noir EP, the first release during these dark days sees the light in November 2020. Consisting of eight tracks (4 original and 4 remixes) this little gem brings back memories of the first wave of goth in the early eighties. Das Kabinette definitely lingers in the air… Over 30 minutes of tunes immensely inspired by the European expressionist era with an abundance of samples and lines from classic cult flicks… From whispering vocals and sharp riffs to upbeat dance beats and industrial tempos… It’s all here..Highlights of this EP the tracks ‘Cold’ and ‘The Night’… The former very reminiscent of the classic Siouxsie track ‘Nightshift’ with its prominent guitar riff and the latter opening with the sweet howling of wolves which slowly leads us to a riff very reminiscent of the early Sisters track ‘Kiss The Carpet’… Mr. Andrew Eldritch would be proud… Within seconds of these first few notes pale faces with black eye-liner and backcombed teased hair come to mind… Ready to hit the late dark dancefloor… Das Noir EP…
Das Noir- Music While Drowning… the follow up to the Das Noir EP this release sees the light of day in April 2021… Consisting of eight tracks once again with over 30 minutes of dark melodies in a more darkwave mood this time round… Less samples and lines from classic cult flicks and more clear vocals by Nick on this little gem… Each track a dark tale about inner thoughts, frustrations and despair.. Delivered in a more poetic mode with strong influences by bands along the lines of Joy Division, And Also The Trees, Cocteau Twins and early Cure… Highlights of this album the track ‘Screams’ with a very reminiscent drum beat to Joy Division’s ‘Heart And Soul’ and singles ‘The Rope’ and ‘The Final Show’… Two rather melancholy tunes highly inspired by Greek 80s darkwavers South Of No North… ‘We Are The Lost’… Another highlight… A song which says it all with its title… Das Noir- Music While Drowning’…
