Dark Malta Festival… The year 2018 brings to life a brand new goth/industrial/metal festival on the small island of Malta in the middle of the Mediterranean. The only event of its kind on this sunny island founded by Rene Hades Farrugia of Hades Management and co-owner of the island’s live venue ‘The Garage’. A man which one could say is the heart and soul of the Maltese underground scene… A small but thriving and ever growing scene…
Dark Malta Festival… Located in the elaborate venue ‘Gianpula Main Room’, part of the ‘Gianpula Village’ nightclub complex, a popular multi nightlife destination of Malta, situated in Zebbug, just outside the fortress city of Mdina. After welcoming Dark Malta Festival last year for the first time this spectacular venue was ready to embrace three days of a dark music celebration once again with over 25 international bands, international DJs, an alternative market and art exhibition and for the first time pool parties on the rooftop of the ‘Gianpula Main Room’.
Dark Malta Festival… With a broad spectrum of old-school bands to newcomers on the goth/industrial/metal scene Dark Malta Festival opened its arms once again with a welcoming atmosphere for each and every performance. From Sweden’s gothsters Deathstars… to UK’s Empathy Test to London’s very own Alien Vampires… to the spectacular show of The Dark… to the electronic power of Norway’s Icon Of Coil… to the dark synthetic beats of Germany’s And One and Project Pitchfork to Austria’s darkwave duo L’ame Immortelle to Italy’s atmospheric newcomers Mal Di Luna. It was all here in Malta… Dark Malta… An international festival that caters for all music tastes of the dark…
Dark Malta Festival… It was quite unique to see such top established bands on the goth/industrial/metal scene in such intimate but yet amphitheatre settings with a sound quality that would put many worldwide acclaimed venues and stadiums to shame… Well done to all the crew at ‘Gianpula Main Room’… A very warm and welcoming atmosphere which the enthusiastic crowd devoured every minute of til the end of each night with an after-party that ran into the early hours of Sunday morning keeping everyone dancing all night long… No strict curfews here… Some invigorating DJ sets during this three day celebration of the dark… Black clad music fans from around the globe were kept more than content til their much anticipated bands stepped on stage… Goths in daylight took to the new pool parties and weren’t afraid of the sun… Dancing and sipping cocktails in their summer goth gear in the heat not in any fear of melting… This festival has it all… Dark Malta Festival…
Dark Malta Festival… A very promising goth/industrial/metal festival that will definitely go far on the international festival map and much deserved too… Dark Malta Festival has come a long way since its early days at the ‘Montekristo Estates’ (the home of the 1st and 2nd edition of the festival)… Very well organised with shuttle buses picking up all the goths scattered around this sunny island to and fro the venue… Hats, sunglasses and high protection sunscreen were ubiquitous during these three days of darkness with the thousand or more visitors on the island for the Dark Malta Festival… A must for any dark music fan, who is not too afraid of the sun, and wants to combine a holiday, some historic culture and great food and most of all an amazing music festival which has so much to offer and lots more music to come… An island that caters for all… Dark Malta Festival 5th Edition… April 19th – April 21st 2024 awaits… Save these dates… Well done Rene for creating and putting together one of the best international goth/industrial/metal festivals of 2023… By Tzina Dovve (DJ Lady Davinia)…
