Funhouse ‘Sometimes I Wish’ Album Review By Tzina Dovve (DJ Lady Davinia)
Funhouse… One of Sweden’s most prestigious oldschool goth rock bands to ever emerge on the dark/ underground/ alternative scene. A band that hails back to the late eighties with a long history on the scene, these goth veterans have had a prominent presence since the good old goth days of the nineties with their enchanting goth melodies, alluring vocals and captivating stage appearances around the goth world… After some years of hiatus with their last official release back in 2007, Funhouse returned in 2020 during the pandemic, with the release of the single ‘Hate You’, followed by a few more singles leading to their long awaited full length album ‘Sometimes I Wish’ which is finally ready for release… A long anticipated album ready to embrace the goth rock world by storm once again… Another dark gem by vocalist and frontman Mikael Korner has been delivered the way these gothsters know best with eleven goth rock masterpieces that will not disappoint… ’Sometimes I Wish’ did take a while to be completed but was definitely worth the wait… Like fine wine…these things take time…
Funhouse… ‘Sometimes I Wish’… A dark and immensely atmospheric album is the first thought that comes to one’s mind upon the first taste of this dark gem with the first notes of the opening track ‘Sometimes I Wish’… A dark song about heartbreak and longing with a dominant guitar riff and the words “Sometimes I wish you were here” lingering throughout the track… The overwhelming feelings of love and despair continue as this goth rock gem moves on to the latest single ‘Blue Light’…”I broke your heart…I broke mine too”… Over forty minutes of melancholic tunes about long lost love, heartache and sorrow with sharp and catchy guitar riffs and Mikael’s deep, sensual vocals that lead us on a dark but alluring music journey… ’Sometimes I Wish’ has the perfect concoction of a deep and rather touching goth love story one might say… A dark romantic album maybe… An album very reminiscent of The Mission in their early days… Mr. Wayne Hussey would be proud… Highlights of this dark gem, if one can choose, the opening track ‘Sometimes I Wish’, the singles ‘Dark And Stormy’, ‘Hate You’, ‘Stay With You’ (2020), the latest single ‘Blue Light’ (2023), the ballad ‘Bury My Heart’…”I wish I could touch your face…and bury my heart in your embrace” and the closing track ‘You Will Never See My Tears’ with its intriguing intro… Funhouse… ‘Sometimes I Wish’…
Funhouse… ‘Sometimes I Wish’… Funhouse have risen from the grave and delivered yet another dark gem… An album which brings back memories of the good old goth days of ‘Never Again’ and ‘The Second Coming’ with a contemporary vibe which will be cherished by Funhouse fans, both new and old… Newschool fans will discover and oldschool fans will remember… A much anticipated album and must for all music fans of melodic goth rock and dark music to own in their music collection… Funhouse have still got it… Bravo Mikael and the boys… Most definitely worth the wait… Another dark gem delivered by one of Sweden’s finest bands on the dark/goth/alternative scene… One of the best goth rock albums and releases of 2024… Don’t miss it… Funhouse… ’Sometimes I Wish’… By Tzina Dovve (DJ Lady Davinia)…
