Die J! Mars may very well be one of the only Goth-Industrial djs in the world technically proficient enough to spin on the same decks as dance legends, Junior Vasquez, Supa DJ Dmitri, Erik Morrillo, Superstar DJ Keoki, Lenny Dee, win dj mix-off competions, etc. but he assures you he is first and foremost a Goth at heart.
During the 90’s Goth revival, Toronto was one of the top places in North America. Toranto had 3 twenty-four hour, seven day/week packed large-scale nightclubs–Mars played 2 of the 3 on the prime nights for over a decade, starting in 1993. He did the dark college radio and played guitar in bands such as EBM act, ATD Convention (signed to Darryl Hell’s Furnace Records). He also did Toronto’s longest running die-hard Goth night (and perhaps Canada as well) called “Evol Mondays” at The Velvet Underground where he gave many independent recording artists such as Masochistic Religion a chance to showcase their work. It was his answer to the overpopulated industrial scene that only said they were Goth but had no music nights to show for it.
Then in 2000, Die J! Mars moved to NYC with nothing but a bag of records (vinyl), $150 and a place to crash on the couch of late great fetish promoter, John D. Sade. Within one year, he became NYC’s #1 fetish dj, spinning at Gomorrah, Sin City, The Black and Blue Ball, Slimelight U.K., Torture Garden U.K., Imperial Orgy, etc.
Mind you, at the time he was focused on bringing Toronto’s Graver dark-trance sound to NYC which subsequently became a standard sound at all NYC industrial-fetish parties.
Around 2003, Die J! Mars left to pursue playing in various music ventures including Rise NYC (signed to DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolo Records, Berlin, remixed by Genesis P-Orridge, produced by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ Jim Sclavunos and recorded by Michael Gira’s Angels of Light guitarist, Peter Mavrogeorgis), Binary Starr System (remixed by David J.), Tulips for Tina (recorded by temp Ministry member Edu) and Neon Music & the Holocast (opened for My Life with The Thrill Kill Kult in Brooklyn 2008). He also has remixed over a dozen acts.
Die J! Mars returns to his roots as a frequent guest for Absolution, concentrating on pulling out all the underground Goth tracks that made him a legend in Canada.
