Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026…33rd Edition…May 22nd – May 25th 2026…Leipzig…Germany… Festival Review…By Tzina Dovve (DJ Lady Davinia)…

Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026… Leipzig… Germany… The largest and longest running international goth festival on the planet took place for yet another year over the Whitsun weekend, as it always has traditionally over the past thirty-three years since it first began… A unique festival celebrating dark/goth music and culture once again… Commencing towards the end of May (a little earlier this year) this fabulous dark celebration embraced over 20.000 thousand goths from every corner of the globe in the iconic city of Leipzig, the largest in the German state of Saxony and one of Germany’s premier cities of music… An exquisite city draped in black for yet another year where goths of all ages and backgrounds gather and enjoy what they all have in common… their never-ending love for goth music and culture… A very welcoming community and safe haven for all…

Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026… Leipzig… Germany… A festival founded by two young goth lads passionate about gothic music and culture back in 1992… Beginning on a much smaller scale, little did they know or could imagine how this festival would grow and evolve into the immense goth festival it has become over the next three decades… With over 200 international bands/artists (206 this year to be precise) on the bill scattered around the 40 or so venues spread across the entire city of Leipzig and the abundance of goth, fetish and ethereal parties, picnics, operas, musuems, acoustic performances, poetic readings and dark art exhibitions, goth and medieval markets, The Pagan Village, absinthe bars and so much more happening during this festival there is always so much to visit and party at all night long over the Whitsun weekend… Blistering sun and heat dominated this years gathering of goths but this did not stop the black clad clan relish their visit at this non-stop festival… From platform boots to winklepickers, fishnets, crushed velvet and lace, satin, leather and pvc, Victoriana and Steampunk attire, Deathrock hairdos and vampiric styles, this festival has it all… Pale faces with thick black eyeliner, red lips and extra strong hold hairspray braved the intense heat without fear (with some extra strong sunscreen !!!) along the streets of Leipzig this year… Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026… 33rd Edition…

Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026… Leipzig… Germany… This year’s festival was no exception in it’s diverse outlook on goth music and its subgenres as WGT has always been renowned for catering for all tastes of the deliciously dark music scene… From dark wave/dark electronic/dark synth to industrial/Ebm/fetish to goth rock/metal to post punk/deathrock to cold wave/ minimal wave to ethereal/neofolk/classical/ambient to dark eighties and even a dash of eighties pop for nostalgia’s sake and so on… Many oldschool distinguished bands/artists from the early goth days made their appearance this year and took to the numerous WGT stages across the exquisite city of Leipzig… From U.K’s Skeletal Family and UK Decay to Kim Wilde to  US’s London After Midnight and Canada’s Front Line Assembly to Germany’s very own Anja Huwe of Xmal Deutschland, Das Ich and Einsturzende Neubauten to Australia’s The SPKtR/SPK to France’s Corpus Delicti and Rosa Crux just to name a few… Many more contemporary and upcoming bands/artists were also on the Wave-Gotik-Treffen bill for its 33rd Edition including some debut performances at this acclaimed international festival… From Greece’s newcomer Eddie Dark to Turkey’s Ductape to the US’s Astari Nite, Male Tears and Rosegarden Funeral Party and so on…

Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026… Leipzig… Germany… One of this year’s highlights, if one must choose, is the largest and most elaborate venue of WGT, Agra Halle, situated in Agra Messepark, on the outskirts of Leipzig… A venue where the main part of Wave-Gotik-Treffen took place back in 1992 and the following earlier years of the festival and host to endless headline acts over the three decades of WGT’s existence… With a 10.000 capacity and an outstanding sound and lighting system this venue never disappoints… One of this year’s highlights on this stage would definitely be Anja Huwe from Xmal Deutschland… Headliner on Friday night Anja took the goth crowd by storm with her dynamic performance and immaculate voice… After years of haitus on the goth scene Anja delivered one of the best shows of the festival with all the classic hits from Xmal Deutschland and of course some of her solo material… The goth anthem ‘Inccubus Succubus’ lingered in the air of Agra all night when Anja left the stage… Another highlight was Corpus Delicti who played an early killer goth show on Sunday on this stage with some of their classics but also presenting the eager crowd with a lot of their new material from their latest album ‘Liminal’… Headliners on the same night Lacrimosa were absolutely divine with the return of Anne Nurmi… A very touching performance with her first show after recovery from her illness… Goth elegance at its finest Tilo and Anne are always on top form everytime they are on stage… Another highlight of the festival was the performance of Australian pioneers of industrial sound (from 1978) The SPKtR/SPK headlining at Volkspalast Kuppenhalle on Monday night… An outstanding performance in an exquisite and spectacular goth venue which resembled something from a vamp flick… One could describe it as a posh goth venue… SPK delivered atmosphere, industrial tones and a female vocalist with immaculate sound in a more intimite space with distinctive visuals… An after-party followed at Volkspalast Kantine, a smaller venue next to the main ball… An atmospheric ethereal party held by the DJ Team ‘Apocalyptic Cocktails’ which kept goths swaying all night… A superb way to end the last day of WGT 2026…

Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026… Leipzig… Germany… This four day non-stop festival not only had a vast number of bands to choose from again this year but also a wide selection of all-night parties and various cultural events across the city of Leipzig… WGT punters have grown accustomed to all the inevitable clashes over the years but it is always still a chore to decide what to attend… Too many choses in such little time… Some of the best parties were part of Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026 keeping the festival in deep party mode once again with some of the finest international DJs spinning across the many venues around the city… The dark dancefloors were kept ablaze for yet another year til the wee hours of the morning for everyone to devour and enjoy… Some highlights from these parties was the ‘Dark Romantics’ dance nights with the DJ Collective team Reiner and Francesco De La Noche on Sunday night at the very picturesque, stylish and elegant Parkschloss Im Agra-Park… Another posh goth venue… With a very easy short cut through Agra into the forest, over a humpback bridge, the lights of this palacial venue shine bright through the trees  lighting up the night sky… The perfect vibe of a vampire ball where everyone swayed all night to the atmospheric tunes of Sopor Aeternus, Dead Can Dance and the like… A slight change of venue again this year for the classic oldschool  fave ‘When We Were Young’… From Naumanns (next to Felsenkeller) where it took place only last year to the main part of Felsenkeller… A very spacious venue with a lot of room to dance… Plenty of fetish parties at Wave-Gotik-Treffen again this year with ‘Fetish Ball-Dark & Bizzarre’, ‘Nasty Noir- The Dark Music Dance’ and ‘House Of Pain-BDSM Event Play & Dance Party’ at the kinky ‘Playhouse’ club which used to be known as the ‘Katz Club’ and much more… Leipzig’s central Darkflower Club hosted a number of all night events again this year with a vast number of international DJs… Monday night was host to the ‘Witching Hour’ with DJ Dark Path & DJ Malice, a team from Athens Greece… One must not forget the ever so popular and historic Moritzbastei, every goth’s favourite place, which hosted a number of dark dance parties again this May, one of which was the Warm-Up Party on Thursday night, the unofficial start to WGT every year, where everyone meets for a few warm-up drinks and socialising to begin the festival well… It is almost like some sort of goth ritual all these years… Another prime Warm-Up Party every year is ‘WGT EBM Warm-Up Party’ which was held at Felsenkeller for yet another year with some very interesting performances by Damage Code, The Invincible Spirit, Plastkstrom and Dina Summer just to name a few…

Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026… Leipzig… Germany… Another highlight of WGT this year the ever so popular and admired by many Victorian Picnic which marks the beginning of the festival every year… One might say this flamboyant and extravagant event has become a tradition and official opening to this grand four day festival… Taking place at Clara-Zetlin-Park Friday 3:00pm close to the city centre this year was busier than ever with a blaring sun shining down on all the goths that braved the heat… Visitors of all ages grabbed the opportunity to dress up, unite with friends or make new ones, pose and take plenty of pics and enjoy plenty of picnic treats under the scorching sun of Leipzig… Thousands of vistors flocked to this glorious picnic and made most of the day before setting off to see some bands… Almost like another goth ritual every year… Without a shadow of a doubt another highlight of Wave-Gotik-Treffen is the very popular Pagan Village by far… Situated near Agra Messepark (just one tram stop away) this place takes you on a short trip back in time and is a must for all vistors each time they attend this glorious festival… This year was busier than ever before and expanding its borders for the goths and viking hords… Each time one visits there is always something new to discover and experience on this short journey back to medieval times… From folk, ethereal and viking metal music to traditional toolmakers, blacksmiths and the classic medieval market to the best beers, fruit wine and tender meat dishes, some cooked on the spit, one has ever tasted…  A sword fighting demonstration in German also took place around the medieval market area which kept visitors rivetted and in awe… Most definitely one of the best highlights of 2026 by far… Not to be missed…

Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026… Leipzig… Germany… May 22nd – May 25th 2026… 33rd Edition… After five nights and four days of this non-stop dark celebration WGT came to an end way too quickly for the 20.000 or so goths attending this fabulous festival for yet another year… Sooo many bands, sooo many parties to chose from and sooo much to see and do in such little time… Not enough space of time… One must not forget goth shopping at one of the biggest goth alternative markets on the planet at Agra… An enormous space with a variety of stalls selling everything every goth’s heart desires… Sacrifices and difficult decisions and choices have to be made every year at Wave-Gotik-Treffen and of course very comfy goth boots to trek around Leipzig and see as many places as possible… Both in-between bands and to keep one dancing all night at all the parties… No rest for the wicked as they say and this year was no exception… New friends were made and older ones were re-united from every corner of the globe once more…  A very melancholic vibe was lingering in the air at the closing party at Moritzbastei on Monday May 25th, the last night of this annual goth gathering… The dark celebration that is Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026 was coming to a close of yet another extremely successful year… Probably one of the busiest ones ever… A dark wave of nostalgia and sadness hung high in the hot Leipzig air as the city slowly emptied the following day… Time for everyone to return back home although goth hearts were evidently still in Wave-Gotik-Treffen mode… The biggest and best and longest running international goth festival on the planet… Thankyou Leipzig for your kind hospitality again this year and to all the wonderful WGT team who organised it all and made this 33rd Edition a very special one… Until next year goths around the world… Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2027… 34th Edition… May 14th – May 17th  2027… Save these dates… and remember … Everyday is a goth day… By Tzina Dovve (DJ Lady Davinia)…
